President’s Letter to Boulder BPW Members and Friends

July 2010

I am honored and excited to begin my term as president of Boulder BPW. As a sole-proprietor, graduate student and new mother, I feel fortunate to have the support and opportunities available to me as a member of this organization.

I initially found Boulder BPW online while looking for a local organization for business women in the fall of 2007. I filled out the membership application, marking nearly every box at the bottom, intent on becoming an active participant. I was immediately impressed with the caliber of women that I met at my first meeting in October. When Kathy Kelly (President, 2007-2008) proposed that I chair the Celebration of Women event, I eagerly accepted the chance to become a board member. Representing Boulder BPW in the Young Careerist competition at the 2008 state convention, I grasped the significant impact that we can have in our communities by “building powerful women: politically, professionally, and personally.” My membership in Boulder BPW has afforded me the encouragement to become a leader and follow my passions.

Last year when Nancy Chin-Wagner (President, 2009-2010) asked if I would consider the position of president-elect, I was a bit circumspect, knowing that my husband and I were planning to start a family. However, after considering the dedication of the women with equally full schedules who have come before me, I gladly accepted the privilege. I owe Nancy a big “thank you” for encouraging me to take such a big leap and for mentoring me as president-elect throughout her tenure.

During my presidency, I would like to emphasize the positive impact that Boulder BPW and its state and national affiliates have on our community. Under my leadership, the board will continue to cultivate the inspiring members and programs that make this organization vibrant. I look forward to a year of growth and opportunity for our members. I am proud to represent such a phenomenal group of women as president of Boulder Business and Professional Women.

Sincerely,

Megan Shellman
President, Boulder BPW 2010-2011
