Community Outreach:
Community Cleanup Day
Join the Boulder City Improvement Association (BCIA2) and the city of Boulder in helping to beautify Boulder on Community Cleanup Day, Saturday, May 17. Your organization can help by cleaning or planting on a specific property that you own or are interested in beautifying. Another option is to help by removing trash and recyclables, pulling weeds or planting flowers at one of the city parks, trails or greenways. You can choose the task, or we can match your group up with a task. You’ll clean from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and then we’ll celebrate together with an ice cream social at Scott Carpenter Park, on the southwest corner of 30th Street and Arapahoe Avenue.
Please sign up to participate by visiting www.bouldercolorado.gov/pwplan and clicking on the link for Community Cleanup Day (on the left hand side of the screen). You can also sign up or learn more by contacting Mary Malley at 303-413-7245 or malleym@bouldercolorado.gov.
BPW/BizChicks Mentoring Project
The new mentoring project of Boulder BPW with the BizChicks of the University of Colorado Leeds School of Business got off to a great start on January 22. There are 30 young women students who have requested mentors and 20 BPW members who are participating as mentors.
Jeannie Hamilton, a volunteer mentor, said that you could feel the electricity of excitement in the room. The students have been eager and receptive to the advice of the mentors. One of the young women said that it is great to meet a woman who has succeeded in her field of choice and renewed her confidence.
Many of these young women are looking for internships, so if your company has a program, do let Connie Takamine know at ctakamine@msn.com. They are very active and we even have some student athletes who are already learning how to juggle multiple activities.
We hope this will continue, and if you would like to participate in the future, let Connie know. We even have a new member who joined just to be a mentor. This project is truly helping to empower these young women both professionally and personally. Another mentor also feels that it is empowering her and that she may learn more than her mentee.
Clean Out Your Closet for Project Self Sufficiency
It's that time of year, the urge to purge! One way of fulfilling this urge is cleaning out our closets, let go of the old to create space for the new. Less is More! Keep the clothing that you really love and let go of the clothing that doesn't enhance your beautiful qualities. On an energetic level this is refreshing and says 'yes' to the universe that you are ready for something new on many levels. While you give your clothing to someone else who is open to receiving something new, you are creating a universal flow.
BPW will be collecting clothing at our next BPW meeting to donate to Family Self Sufficiency's Career Closet, February 21st and March 20th.
Family Self Sufficiency welcomes new or almost new updated clothing for their career closet. They are looking for sizes 8 and up, Short Jackets, Slacks, Tops, Blouses, accessories (purses and shoes). Clothing that women can wear for job interviews.
